Faux fur comes in two different types, the fabric fake looking type generally used to cover products and the imitation animal fur. Both are still very popular however as faux furs have gotten better the use of the “fabric” cover type has slowly started to fade out. Faux fur animal imitations include chinchilla, fox, and mink, but also beaver, tiger, lion, giraffe, bear, wolf, coyote and rabbit furs! While not as durable as real fur, faux fur is much easier to dye, thus its very commonly used as a complement on designer fashion clothing.

High-end faux fur coats, hats and jackets have become very popular as of late, especially with the rising costs of real fur. Some designers such as Donna Sayler has made a name for themselves just working with faux furs. Tissavel has made a huge name for themselves as well selling very high end faux fur throws and fabric. Now ultra-lux designers including Dolce & Gabanna and Chanel have faux fur jackets and coats on the market.

Faux fur has come a long way from cheap Kleenex box covers to now amazing threads that can even trick an expert from a distance. If you cant afford real fur, there is no reason you cant enjoy the timeless style of fur by using faux furs.
