Sable fur comes in two different styles. Russian sable which is brown with a silver cast. It is unquestionably the most expensive fur and can get even pricier when there are an abundance of silver hairs. A lesser expensive version of sable would be the Canadian counterpart golden sable. It has amber colored tones and is somewhat less expensive. On a plus note, the Canadian version is very durable.
It is not uncommon to see sable furs priced in the $40-50k range. Prices of sable fur have increased drastically over the past few years and doubled in 2006. When buying sable fur (especially jackets and coats) you must be exceptionally careful that you are not buying a faux sable fur. To the untrained eye there are some incredibly well made sable faux’s fur coats that feel almost like the real thing.
If you can afford the price tag of a sable fur coat, buy one. You will never regret it, but of course you’ll never be able to wear another type of fur again!
